Cromartys in Australia |
| The
first Cromarty branch in Australia originated from an ex-Royal Navy
Captain William Cromarty, who arrived in NSW in 1824, aged 40 and was
given a land grant of 300 acres in the Soldier's Point- Salamander Bay
area, near Port Stephens on the NSW North Coast. He died on September 1, 1838 when he,
his eldest son and two others launched a small boat through the
surf off One Mile Beach. More detail on this branch.
A second Australian branch originated from another William Cromarty (14-1) who arrived in Port Melbourne, Victoria around 1880. You may trace his line from here. The Victorian Registry of Births, deaths and Marriages lists several Cromarty documents which I cannot yet link into either William's line. Please review them & help if you can.
